Yukari Niikura was born and raised in Japan, studied fashion design at Bunka Gakuen University in Tokyo, and works as a project coordinator in the Fashion and Gift industry in NYC.
She has been collecting African print fabrics from Harlem, Brooklyn and the Garment district in NYC, Chateau Rouge in Paris, Kenya and the Ivory Coast in Africa to make her own outfits. She started making masks for her friends, neighbors, her co-volunteers at the food coop, and restaurant workers using her African print fabrics since the COVID-19 pandemic started. Her masks are reversible, washable, and adjustable, and most importantly fun! Those are now available at 4th Street Food Coop for purchase. 100% of the sales are donated to the Meal to Heal NYC project. For more info, contact Yukari via Instagram @malcooo.
