Delivery 5: Ihawan Restaurant & Woldy Kusina --> King’s County Hospital
During Memorial Day weekend, we honored head nurse Maria Guia Cabillero, who died from COVID-19 on April 26, 2020. Late Saturday night, we delivered to her unit at Kings County Hospital—enough meals to feed one hundred people who worked alongside her. Accompanying the meals were cards written by students and teachers from Flushing International High School, as well as a framed portrait of Mama Guia, created by artist Xenia Diente.
Many thanks to the people who contributed to this effort, most especially: Ihawan Restaurant in Woodside, Queens and Woldy Kusina in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn for providing the meals and the Theatre Development Fund for supporting the voices from Flushing International High School.
Mama Guia’s legacy is a testament to the strength, care, and guidance that has carried us all through the difficulties and challenges we have endured thus far. We are grateful for the impact she and all the healthcare workers have made on the lives of so many.
